Match the product and variant

Begin with the basics: is this the same model, color and size? Inspection photos from another purchase can help you understand a listing, but they cannot establish the condition of your own order.

Check whether close-ups and a full view are both available. A single attractive angle can miss the areas you need to assess. Lighting can also change the apparent color of fabric and materials.

Use a checklist for the product type

Useful QC views for common spreadsheet finds
ProductViews to requestDecision the view supports
SneakersBoth shoes together, toe, sides, heels, outsole and a clear insole measurementPair consistency, visible finish and fit comparison
Hoodies and T-shirtsFront, back, seams, graphic close-up and laid-flat measurementsCorrect design, print placement and garment dimensions
Bags and headwearInside, fastening, strap anchors or closure, plus dimensionsContents, capacity and visible construction
ElectronicsModel label, visible device and included parts if opening is permittedCorrect model and contents; not proof of performance

Work through the exact item rather than giving every product the same photo request. For example, a bag interior matters for capacity, while a close-up of a sealed electronics box cannot answer a question about the device inside.

Clothing: measurements and construction

For a top, ask for chest width, body length and sleeve length with the item laid flat. For trousers, compare waist, rise, inseam and leg opening. Use the same measuring method as a garment that already fits you.

Zoom in on seams, cuffs, hems and print edges. Check whether both sides appear consistent. If material composition matters, look for a readable label or documented specification rather than inferring it from a photo.

A photo also leaves some fabric properties unanswered. Our explanation of T-shirt GSM and fabric weight separates a stated specification from what you can judge visually.

Approve, ask for more photos or request a return?

  • Approve for packing only when the item matches the order and the visible checks answer your main questions.
  • Ask for more evidence when a specific angle or measurement could resolve the uncertainty.
  • Ask about return options promptly when the wrong variant arrived or a visible issue changes your decision. Keep the order unshipped while the request is reviewed.

A lighting difference is a reason to request another view, not automatic proof that the wrong color arrived. A readable label showing a different model is stronger evidence of a mismatch. Record what the image actually shows, separating it from what you suspect.

Footwear: a complete set of angles

Look at the front, both side profiles, heel and outsole. Compare the two shoes for shape and alignment. An insole measurement can be more useful for fit than a size conversion table.

Check visible glue, stitching, eyelets, lining and the included accessories. A photo cannot establish long-term durability or authenticity; keep those questions separate from visible workmanship.

Example of a useful extra-photo request

Order [reference], selected grey / size [size]. The current heel photo shows only one shoe. Please photograph both heel panels together on a level surface, and show the model label clearly.

For a measurement request, name the start and end points. Ask for a top laid flat, measured straight across the chest from one underarm seam to the other. Keep the tape endpoints visible. This gives a more comparable result than asking whether the garment is “true to size”.

Turn uncertainty into a specific request

Write a short request such as “Please measure chest width laid flat” or “Please photograph both heel panels together.” A precise request is more useful than “Check quality.”

For your own order, ask about the service’s photo options, inspection scope and return window before international shipping. Keep the response with your shortlist so the decision is easy to revisit.

Is a high QC photo count a quality score?

No. The count records photos associated with the listing, not a pass rate, a customer rating or the result of your own inspection. Several repeated angles may answer fewer questions than a small set of clear views.

Photos also cannot establish authenticity, hidden defects, battery capacity or long-term durability. If one of those matters, identify the separate specification, test or documentation you need before approving shipment.
